Malcom first met Mary Loucks at a breakfast where she was being honored as a Woman of Distinction by a local organization for girls. When Mary got up to speak at the event she shared a quote from Albert Sweitzer which resonated with Malcom who felt it embodied his philosophy on volunteerism,

“I don’t know what your destiny will be but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will feel really happy are those of you who will have sought and found how to serve.”

After their initial meeting Mary became a role model and a friend to Malcom, an inspiration in how she gave without reservation to those around her in need. Malcom's focus in volunteering is around children and for over twenty-five years he has volunteered wherever he has lived, working to find ways to make the lives of children better and more fulfilling.
